How Blackpool's school staff are taking on the protective gear challenge

Staff at schools across the resort have been responding to the need to help provide vital safety equipment for helathy workers.

But one pair were only forced to stop after they ran out of materials.

Lynne Royle and Cath Bach from Montgomery Academy in Blackpool have been busy over recent weeks producing visors and other PPE for local front line services.

They only stopped when they ran out of materials after having made 2,459 visors between them , which have now been distributed to a range of facilities across the Fylde Coast, Preston,Chorley and Liverpool.

Over in South Shore, staff at Armfield Academy have been busy too

Headteacher Mark Kilmurray said: "In the light of the unprecedented situation that our country presently faces, Armfield Academy has supported the local schools’ effort to do more to support our NHS and Primary Care Teams.

"Our design technology teachers and technicians got their heads together, secured the blue-prints, obtained the materials and through using our 3D laser cutters have produced full-face visors."

He added: "Our staff and students are truly humbled by the efforts of our doctors, nurses, clinical practitioners and all our social-care providers and those behind the scenes making our health-care system work.

" Every single one of them is going above and beyond the call of duty in this national crisis for the betterment of all of us here on the Fylde coast.

Armfield Academy simply wanted to help, say thank you and recognise your efforts."

John Topping, community relations and estates lead for the Fylde Coast Academy Trust said : "We are very proud of all our FCAT schools; they have been working hard on our behalf to manufacture and distribute these visors to the front-line staff'."
