Hotstepping to Lotto joy

Clifton Primary School, on Clitheroe Road, St Annes, was awarded £9,460 in funding from the National Lottery to purchase the Cyber Coach games facility for teaching a range of lessons.

The computer unit comes with seven interactive mats which the pupils stand on to answer questions.

John Atkinson, a teacher at the school who arranged the funding, said: “It can be set up in classrooms and they are best described as dance mats which children step on to press buttons, depending on what comes on the screen.

“The lessons range to everything from foreign languages to maths and the reason it helps us is because it’s physical activity for the children.

“Clubs are benefiting from this and it has also been brought into lessons.

“The system is still new to the staff and we still need to train them up on it.

“I’ve used it and the headteacher has seen it and we are rolling it out in lessons, so it’s certainly a way of interacting with the children and helps teachers.”

The new Lotto draw was launched two weeks ago and has bigger jackpots, a brand new raffle and the chance to win £25 by matching three numbers.

Tickets cost £2 and it is hoped the new format will benefit even more schools and groups by handing out thousands of pounds in funding.
