Girls get tips on how to reach the top from an expert

Aspiring young athletes at a Fylde school have been improving their girl power on the field.

The select group of year eights from Carr Hill High School in Kirkham received expert advice from Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde Athletics Club coach Kevin Davies.

Kevin put the girls through their paces with a variety of exercises designed to improve their technique and strengthen their ability.

He was impressed with what he saw and said: “I really enjoy running these sessions in schools.

“It’s really rewarding seeing the students improve and gain in confidence, and for us as an athletics club it’s great in that it allows us to spot new talent.”

PE teacher at the Royal Avenue school Mrs Charlotte Carroll said: “We’re constantly looking for ways to give our students additional learning opportunities, and it’s fantastic to be able to partner with other local organisations.”

She added: “We’re very grateful to Mr Davies for coming in and delivering what was a most enjoyable session.”

Pupils agreed and said they have picked up a host of tips which they plan to use to improve their technique.

Ellie Mullins and Lucy Tickle were two of 12 students chosen to take part.

Ellie said: “The session was really fun and Mr Davies was really encouraging.

“It has made me think about joining Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde Athletics Club.”

Lucy said she has learned a lot from the session and added:“He taught us some techniques I hadn’t seen before, like the rubber band running exercise.

“It was really interesting and I’m really glad I got to take part”.
