But after discovering she had the relevant qualifications to do a degree, the 28-year-old, from Cleveleys, made a life-changing decision to give up her job and embark on a new learning journey.

This week, she graduated from Blackpool and The Fylde College with a first class honours degree in Automotive Engineering and Technology (Motorsport) from Lancaster University.

She said: “This course has given me the opportunity to do things I could never have dreamed of. Working with cutting-edge simulator software and learning how to weld are skills I couldn’t have imagined having.

“While I was studying, the College built the new Advanced Technology Centre which was a huge progression in the standard of facilities we were learning in.

“The tutors had their specific areas of technical expertise and were very knowledgeable. “I’m applying for graduate schemes with engineering companies and would love to work in renewable energy.”
