The school, on Lytham Road, South Shore, will be closed to all nursery, primary, and secondary pupils from tomorrow.

Head teacher Mark Kilmurray said: "Due to concerns about the coronavirus, combined with the official guidance around self-isolation for those people who are in high risk groups, our staff absence has reached an untenable level.

"This decision has not been arrived at easily, but we are no longer able to provide a safe educational environment for all our students. At this stage, the school will remain closed until further notice."

Pupils at the school will be given work to complete at home during the closure, and learning links will be provided on the school's website.

Secondary school pupils have also been encouraged to use the 'BBC Bitesize' website to keep up to scratch with their English, maths and science skills.

Mr Kilmurray said: "Clearly this is an unprecedented situation and we are working hard to manage it as effectively as possible."
