AKS is a class act

Determined not to be to outdone by their elders, GCSE students at AKS a produced a sterling performance with their GCSE results.

Hard on the heels of last week's outstanding A Levels, the year 11s are celebrating first class results in this , with an impressive 58% of all grades being 9-7 (equivalent to A*/A).

Head of Middle School, Phill Rudd said: "I’m delighted with this year’s results and am proud of the way our students have responded to the challenges presented by COVID-19.

Students’ hard work and dedication are reflected in these achievements and will give them a strong foundation for their A levels. I’m proud, not just of their achievements, but the maturity and tenacity they have shown in recent months."

There were some stunning successes among many pupils who take part in a host of out-of-school activities as well including Meghna Shajil, who got  nine 9s,is also a ATCL Diploma pianist and talented flautist​, with a Gold Medal for Verse and Prose (LAMDA), Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award and national finalist in the French Spelling Bee.

 Mia Williams, with nine 9s, Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award, represents the school for both hockey and netball, in addition to fundraising for Médecins Sans Frontières in Yemen with AKS Action​;

Headmaster David Harrow said:  “This is a wonderful set of results, justly deserved by a fantastic year group. Behind every name, and behind every grade, sits an individual story, and we are proud to celebrate not just their GCSEs but everything else they bring to the community of the school, through sport, drama, music, service and so many other facets of their lives, especially in the context in which we now find ourselves

 Much of what they have achieved cannot be measured, but it is just as valuable, and will enable every student not just to thrive in their own futures, but to make a tangible and positive difference that goes far beyond school."

Head of Sixth Form, Kevin Maund added: " It’s been another year of outstanding results and despite the unprecedented challenges faced, our students have got off to a flying start by completing our bespoke pre-A level programme in June. ."
