Builders are on site putting up a new McDonald’s on the car park area at Morrisons, in Cleveleys.

And despite having to battle the worst that Storm Dennis could throw at them, they are on course to have the business open around the start of April.

Business owner Nigel Dunnington, who has 16 McDonald’s restaurants in Lancashire said he was pleased with the progress on the two storey building and was looking forward to the opening.

He said: “Things are going well. The building work has not been helped by Storm Dennis coming in just as they were putting up the building.

“It caused a few challenges but things are going well.

“The air conditioning was going in today and then it is a case of doing the fitting out inside.

“We are aiming to open at the start of April and we will begin the recruitment in the next couple of weeks.

“We will be creating between 100 and 120 jobs, part-time and full time, which will be open to all ages.”

Mr Dunnington said he expected the site, which also features a drive-through and outdoor seating, to be busy.

“We have a restaurant in Fleetwood less than three miles away and at Cherry Tree Road is not too far away, but the Cleveleys, Thornton, Norcross area had seen a lot of new housing development, so there is definitely demand.”

The plans were initially rejected by Wyre Council who feared noise and air pollution for nearby residents, but it was overturned by a planning inspector who said that with mitigation measures, it would have a negligible effect on neighbours.
