Babs Murphy, chief executive at the North and Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, said the voluntary sector was “more needed than ever” with austerity measures putting pressure on some communities.

She added that voluntary and community groups across the county were “playing a major role” in helping communities to prosper and thrive.

The Be Inspired Business Awards, the BIBAs, the awards which are run by the North and Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, is open for applications to its Third Sector Business of the Year category.

Babs Murphy said: “We see third sector organisations working across Lancashire every day to make a difference and the value of the work they do cannot be underestimated.

“They have always faced challenges in the work they do and the passion they put in to their work has got them through to ensure they are playing a major role in helping people.

“The work they do is more needed than ever and the passion which drives them is more needed than ever – fortunately neither are in short supply in Lancashire.”

The BIBAs is working with voluntary and community organisations through its BIBAs Foundation, a fund which offers to support 16-24 year olds to flourish, learn and develop business skills or knowledge; continue or expand their enterprising work; build their capacity for the future.

The fund is made up of monies generated by the profits of the BIBAs each year along with contributions from Lancashire businesses and individuals.

In 2017, the Blackburn-based, Community and Business Partners Community Investment Company picked up the Third Sector Business of the Year at the BIBAs awards night in Blackpool.
