Flats plan for former Blackpool nightclub
Plans to convert further space within a former Blackpool nightclub building to flats will mean no return for late-night partying at the venue.
The owners of the central Promenade property which was home to the now closed Club Domain and Sanuk nightclubs, says while the dance arena is still there, it will not be used for "loud music until 4am".
Businessman Peter Bowden, who operated the clubs, says the focus for the venue is now on creating bespoke serviced holiday flats and any future use of the nightclub area would need to complement those.
A planning application to make external alterations to the front and side of the building and use parts of the ground, first and second floors as eight self-contained flats is awaiting a decision from Blackpool Council.
Part of the property is also already used for storage by Mr Bowden and his business partner Phil Green.
Mr Bowden said: "We have already restored parts of the building on Springfield Road back into serviced apartments and they are doing really well.
"I closed the nightclub a year ago but the main arena is still in and ready to use at a moment's notice.
"We have options for its use, however our feeling is we won't have another nightclub in that space as we now have these beautiful serviced apartments in the building.
"What we don't need is loud music until 4am."
If the latest flats scheme gets the go ahead, hoardings and signs from the entrance to the former nightclub will be removed to reveal the original features of the building which was originally the Princess Cinema.
A design statement accompanying the application says: "The building fronting on to the Promenade is an old cinema building with a vast amount of original character detail to the front elevation.
"This has historically been covered by the installation of hoardings, signage and alterations to the entrance of the former nightclub.
"It is proposed to remove the previous additions and reveal the original features of the building."
