New chippy opens on the Fylde coast despite the problems of coronavirus

A Fylde coast team has opened a new food business in defiance of the effects of the coronavirus lockdown.

Connor’s Chippy on Rough Lea Road, Cleveleys, has opened after Connor Wilson and Steve Kerr carried out months of renovations on the premises.

The pair completely overhauled the restaurant, which used to be called Steve’s. It now seats 40 people with a further 40 in its outdoor seating area.

The new wooden panelled walls and maritime colour scheme tie into their sea-side location near Cleveleys Promenade. They made improvements to the kitchen, buying new equipment which includes a state-of-the-art pizza oven.

Connor and Steve have assembled a team with a combined 90 years’ experience within the industry including a AA Rosette.

Connor, 24, from Pilling, Over Wyre. Went to St Aidans High Schoo, then a chef apprenticeship and two years at Blackpool and Fylde College before working at across the Fylde Coast.

Steve, 46, has 28 years experience in hotel and catering working in various roles across the county, including at the award-winning Sharrow Bay Hotel in Ullswater which held a Michelin Star at the time.

The pair are excited about their new adventure and are not disheartened about the current global situation.

Connor said: “We are delighted to open our doors, we have thought and planned extensively to create something unique to Cleveleys.

“While it may not be the best time to open a business, we are not afraid and are making all the necessary precautions to allow our customers to visit safely.”
