He has supported the Grand’s bid to the Culture Recovery Fund and encouraged other venues to apply. Now, alongside the Theatre All Party Parliamentary Group, he is calling on Government for vital assurances and support to ensure the sector’s survival.

He said: “Theatre and the arts are at the core of our community, they have helped shape Blackpool as a town and a tourist destination.

“I recognise the impact this pandemic has had on theatres, the uncertainty they continue to face and the severe financial consequences of prolonged closure. It is imperative we do all we can to support them and to ensure they are able to re-open their doors and welcome back audiences when the time is right.

"I also continue to call for more support for freelance workers in the arts, entertainment and events.”

Six key requests have been submitted to Government. They are:

To ensure unspent funding from the Culture Recovery Fund rolls over into the next financial year

To consider targeted measures for theatres in any spending review

To fund infrastructure for rapid testing

Financial assistance for theatre insurance cover

Theatre Production Tax Relief

The extension of the Retail Business Rates Discount to include theatres

They will be submitted to Government in a letter signed by members of the APPG and supporters.
