#BeKind began trending on social media after the death of TV presenter Caroline Flack, who was found dead on Saturday February 15, which some people online have attributed to intrusions of privacy.

Now salons across the UK are ditching gossip magazines in favour for promoting a more positive mindset and relationship between their clients.

The magazines are being associated online with abusive comments, disrespectful articles aimed at celebrities' outfits or appearances, and intrusion into their personal lives.

Lisa Holland, 42, of Bromley Close North Shore, is the owner of Bliss Perfect beauty salon on Caunce Street in the town centre, and said she has always operated a "no gossip" policy in her salon and thought others should do the same.

"I opened this salon in January 2018, and have never had gossip or celebrity magazines in here, she said.

"We have complete client confidentiality here and I don't think people should speak about each other in a negative way when they're here, so I won't allow it."

The salon will continue to offer free wifi as a replacement to the magazines, but welcomed suggestions for other types of reading material, Ms Holland added.

#BeKind was created in 2017 by mum Lucy Alexander after her 17-year-old son Felix was found dead, and she wanted to make a stand against online trolling and bullying,

Now the hashtag has been re-circulated across social media platforms including Facebook and Twitter, to encourage people to be kinder with their words online.

Lisa continued: "We are always here for our clients, if they want to chat or come to us with their issues they can do so in confidence.

"Staff here are actually trained to know how to support and listen to clients who come here for beauty treatments.

"There are lots of people with mental health issues in Blackpool and it can be a problem, so I think all salons should have a policy like ours and encourage people to just be nice to each other."
