Blackpool construction firm hired to build new airport hotel

A Blackpool construction firm is set to build a 251 bedroom hotel at a regional airport after teaming up with a new partner.

Create Developments and sister company Create Construction are to build the hotel at Edinburgh for Ibis after planning permission was granted by the area’s local authority.

The Whitehills-based firms have signed a franchise agreement with Accor, under its globally known Ibis brand.

Create said the hotel complex was in a prime location adjacent to the airport and business park and was set to become an exciting landmark at the gateway of the busiest Scottish terminal attracting both business and tourist trade.

The airport is a 28-minute drive from the centre of Scotland’s capital, and it predicts it will experience extensive growth of up to 35 million passengers by 2050.

Paul Mathison, chief executive of Create Developments said: “With seven live developments at various stages - from planning, construction and branding, we are excited about developing our new relationship with Accor and hope that we can continue to support them in their future expansion journey.”

Create Construction will begin building works later in the year, with a build duration of 70 weeks. The hotel is set to open early 2023.

It will feature Ibis’s new contemporary and urban ‘Plaza’ design concept, brought to life by hotel and interior specialists ICA, in collaboration with the Accor design and technical services team.

The new 251-bed hotel will also feature a stand-alone restaurant and bar building and provide parking for up to three coaches and 125 cars. Being close to the airport, the building will have sound-proofing for the comfort of guests.
