Directed by multi award-winning theatre, opera and film director Phyllida Lloyd, whose credits include the films Mamma Mia and The Iron Lady, this evergreen production updates the original setting to the late 1950s, a time when art, music and philosophy reigned in Paris.

Anthony Ward’s atmospheric sets convey the hustle and bustle of Paris and the Left Bank cafes and clubs.

La Bohème follows the passionate romance between Rodolfo, a young artist, and Mimi, a seamstress. Tragic circumstances force the couple apart, creating one of the greatest stories of love and loss. Puccini’s music weaves a glorious melody throughout.

It’s performed here by a young cast of future international opera stars with sopranos Gabriela Istoc and Anita Watson sharing the role of Mimi, and tenors Sebastien Gueze and Ji-Min Park performing as Rodolfo.

It runs from Wednesday to Saturday. Box Office: 0843 208 6005 or www.thelowry.com
