Absent has been put together by dreamthinkspeak’s artistic director Tristan Sharps.

Tristan’s work interweaves live performance with a variety of technologies to create extraordinary journeys that are ambitious in scale, visually layered and popular with audiences wherever they are performed.

Previous works have taken place in a variety of architectural contexts from an underground abattoir in London, to a disused paper factory in Moscow to the vast Zuidas office building complex in Amsterdam.

This new production explores the story of Maggie Morgan who celebrates a big Premium Bonds win by moving into the Pavilion suite at the Winter Gardens Hotel. Half a century later, she is still there, while all around her this world-renowned hotel has been falling into financial and physical collapse.

In small groups at a time, the audience will travel through the hotel’s rooms and corridors. The show combines film, architecture and a “haunting soundtrack” to create a truly immersive experience.

Ruth Eastwood, Chief Executive of The Grand Theatre said: “Absent uses unique and and beautiful elements of the building, not normally accessible to the general public, to create a whole new world, where ticket-holders step into and are, literally, surrounded by their fantasy.
