Military theme for fete

Clifton community hospital is holding its annual summer fete for patients, relatives and the local community on Saturday, August 2.

As the event is just two days before the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the First World War the hospital is dedicating the fete to the memory of all things wartime.

Courtney Bickerdike, hospital matron at Clifton Hospital, said: “Many of our patients suffer from dementia or confusion of some kind so we always try to think of ways that help trigger memories.

“Obviously there won’t be any that remember the First World War but the wartime theme will help remind them of their youth which will actually help with their treatment.

“The fete itself is going to be as fun and enjoyable as it is every year.

“We’ve got all kinds of classic games, tombolas lined up as well as cakes and everything you’d expect from a summer fete. We also hope to have some vintage army vehicles on site too to add to that atmosphere.”

All the money raised will be given to the League of Friends of the Hospital who will then use it to pay for enhancements to the garden area which it is hoped will include a special area specifically for patients with dementia.

The fete is held at the hospital, in the courtyard gardens, on Saturday, August 2 between 2pm and 4pm and is open to everyone.
