Lowther Pavilion is hosting a community carol concert in Lytham Gardens, where for the first time there will be a Christmas tree for local people to enjoy.

The carol singing will take place on Friday, December 11, from 6.30pm, around the new tree feature.

Blackburn and Darwen Band will be providing the musical accompaniment and local singer Pauline Hardie will be leading the singing.

Lowther Pavilion general manager Roger McCann said: “The Lowther Gardens and Pavilion have always been at the heart of the community in Lytham and I think this is a great way to bring the community together.

“There’s nothing better in the build up to Christmas than joining your neighbours to sing carols and I would love to see this develop into annual event.

“We’ll have mulled wine and mince pies to keep people in good voice so it should be a wonderful family event.”

Father Christmas will be among the special guests on the night, arriving on his sleigh with the help of Lytham Round Table.

But instead of handing out presents, he’s asking local children to bring a gift to him - so that he can pass them on to children who might not otherwise receive a present this year.

In the event of bad weather, the event will move inside the Pavilion.

The concert will go on until 8pm.

The carols will come the day after Lowther’s pantomime gets under way - bringing the classic fairy story Cinderella to life.

Advance ticket sales for the Polka Dot Pantomimes production have been reported as being up 63 per cent on the same stage last year.

Roger said: “I think the increase in sales is largely to do with the success of last year.

“The feedback from audiences was magnificent so it’s bound to give a boost to the following year.

“Add to that the fact that Cinderella is always the most popular pantomime and you’ve got a sure-fire winner.”
