The former Doctor Who star is filming the title role in Victoria, a new eight-part series charting the early life of Queen Victoria.

And it’s reportedly been signed up to air on American network PBS in its Masterpiece Sunday timeslot next year – in the space currently occupied by Downton Abbey.

“Downton Abbey has proved that millions of viewers will turn up year after year for a beautifully-crafted period drama,” Masterpiece’s executive producer Rebecca Eaton said in a statement.

“Victoria has it all: a riveting script, brilliant cast, and spectacular locations. And it’s a true story! This is exactly the kind of programming Masterpiece fans will love,” she continued.

Jenna quit her role as the Doctor’s assistant Clara Oswald after much speculation last year, her departure from the role was confirmed shortly after she was cast in new ITV venture Victoria.

Victoria has been written by novelist Daisy Goodwin, in her screenwriting debut.
