Booker prize nominee set to talk at county literary festival

Booker Prize shortlisted Lancashire-based author Carol Birch is one of the guests at a one day literary festival in the county this month.

The Word festival is to take place at 16th Century manor house Astley Hall and will also feature top short story writer Zoe Lambert, author of the acclaimed War Tour.

Carol Birch’s stunning historical novel Jamrach’s Menagerie was listed for the Booker and made the finals of the Orange Prize.

Also on the bill are freewheeling travel writer Peter Moore, plus book designers Ned Hoste, who produced covers for writers from Jack Higgins to Danielle Steel plus Ed Christano who runs the marketing firm Deeper Blue.

They day is aimed at fiction and non-fiction writers, ghost-writers and journalists and anyone who wants to learn more about how to write.

It will also feature the chance to take part in a short writing project based in and around Astley Hall itself.

The Word will take place on Saturday, September 21 from 9.30am to 15.30pm.
