The plans to demolish The Mayfield pub on Mayfield Road, which is also known as the St Annes Royal British Legion club were submitted to the council in July last year and it was hoped it could be replace with three three-bedroom detached houses.
However Fylde Council planning officers have knocked back the plans on the grounds of losing a community facility and ‘poor design’ plans.

Until the coronavirus lockdown last month, the pub still remained open. It closed on March 20 following the Government’s decision to close all of the country’s bars, pubs and clubs to combat the global pandemic.
Giving the decision, Paul Walker, director of development services at Fylde Council, said: “The proposed development would result in the demolition of an existing public house and, in turn, the loss of a community facility.”
“The applicant has failed to provide any substantive or compelling evidence to adequately demonstrate that the continued, existing use of the building as a public house is not commercially viable or that the building could not be used for another viable, alternative community use.”
