Ultravox - Blackpool Opera House
Thirty years on from a packed-out concert in Blackpool, Ultravox showed they could still pull in a crowd with as much gusto as in their heyday.
The 80s new wave rock band played to a near full capacity crowd at the Opera House, Blackpool, on Saturday night.
Undeterred by the confines of seats, and perhaps not as much in the mood for dancing as they used to be, the years fell away for the audience as they revelled in the tracks of their years.
Kudos must go to the dozen or so who stayed on their feet all night.
The band’s old school electro rock was welcomed with rapturous applause and eventually coaxed everyone out of their seats.
Though the lighting and video show captured the mood of the 80s it did little to add to the mood of the performance.
Ultravox’s isn’t a showy style, and is one nowadays spoofed by the likes of Bill Bailey, it’s a static electro styling more practical for Midge Ure’s smart suit.
Nonetheless, the title of their latest album was the word on everyone’s lips at the end of the night, Brilliant.
