THEY often say Blackpool is the Las Vegas of the north – and proof has arrived in the form of Central Pier’s new show.
International hit Stars In Concert recently opened in Vegas, where it has gone down a storm, and next it is coming to Blackpool as part of the Pier’s Easter and summer season.
The Easter shows take place on Friday 29 to Sunday March 31 and consist of seven performances recreating some of the biggest names in popular music past and present.
With tributes to Madonna, Rod Stewart, Sting, Marilyn Monroe, Tina Turner, Tom Jones and Donna Summer all on one evening it promises to be a starry night out for the Blackpool public who go and see the show.
“Visitors to the Central Pier Showbar have come to expect wonderful entertainment and the highest standards and we’re delighted to bring Stars In Concert to the resort,” said Central Pier general manager Rob Jones.
“I’ve seen the show and it’s fabulous. It’s all live, they’ve got a great backing band and stunning dancers.”
Central Pier had previously been the home of the long-running Legends show, which has moved to the Sands Venue this year.
But with Stars In Concert, Pier bosses are confident they have a smash hit on their hands.
Many of the artists performing in the Vegas version of Stars In Concert will be in the Blackpool show.
It is also performed in Berlin, where it has been entertaining audiences at the Estrel Festival Centre since 1997.
More than four million people have seen the show and others produced by its creator Bernhard Kurz.
Tickets for the Easter dates are on sale from today from the box office at The Winter Gardens, or from the box office at Central Pier from Monday March 25.
Further information and on-line booking is available now from www.centralpierblackpool.co.uk or by calling 0844 847 2451.
The summer season of Stars In Concert will run from June 13 to November 4, with other artists on the line-up performing as Amy Winehouse, Jerry Lee Lewis, Whitney Houston, Little Richard, Dolly Parton and Bette Midler. Tickets for the summer will be on sale from the Easter weekend.
