A music-lover has pledged he will never return to Blackpool’s Winter Gardens after describing scenes of “chaos” during a UB40 concert.
Neil Power, 33, who travelled from Manchester, claimed last Friday’s gig in the resort was the “worst concert ever” as members of the 2,000-strong audience surged towards the front of the stage.
Despite paying more than £70 for two tickets on a visit to the resort with wife Nicola, 35, Mr Power said security staff tried to bring the crowd under control after fans were called forward by the band.
He added: “I was shocked to see so many people getting up and walking out.
“This was my fifth or sixth time watching UB40 and it was the worst concert ever.
“Security were trying to keep the emergency routes clear but it was an endless battle.”
Mr Power claimed some people who were ejected from the venue for fighting were allowed back in.
He demanded a refund from the organisers – which he was given.
But he said the incidents had ruined his visit to the resort and he said he is unlikely to return.
He added: “What has happened would put me going back to that venue.
“I have seen UB40 many times before but I can’t imagine ever going back there.”
A Winter Gardens spokesman said: “UB40 proved to be an extremely popular event with more than 2,000 people enjoying the concert on Friday night, the large majority of the audience had an incredible evening and was wowed by UB40 and the supporting artist. There were some minor matters brought to the attention of our front of house team who dealt with them promptly and efficiently to ensure the concert was a success.
“The Winter Gardens work closely with promoters and security teams to ensure all visitors have the best of experiences. We work to ensure that no individual ever feels their experience is impeded in any way and that the standards the Winter Gardens continues to offer is of the highest of standards and the greatest of quality.”
