Part of Blackpool Promenade was closed off to traffic for several hours yesterday to enable the producers of a new TV show to film key scenes.

Motorists were diverted off South Promenade onto Clifton Drive, just south of the Pleasure Beach, to enable car crash scenes to be filmed.

The road was closed as far as The Solaris.

Producers were filming scenes for the second series of ITV drama Prey, starring Philp Glenister as a prison officer forced to go on the run.

The three-part series is being filmed in Manchester, Salford and Blackpool.

The road was expected to be closed until around 7pm last night.

Philip Glenister takes the role of prison officer David Murdoch whose life becomes complicated when on a routine visit to a Manchester hospital with female prisoner Jules Hope (Myanna Buring) events spiral out of control.

David takes a phone call which will change his life forever and suddenly sees him on the wrong side of the law.
