A FAMOUS TV show host has died in a Blackpool hospice.

Derek Batey, who was 84, began his career with ITV Border in Carlisle and became a household name after creating Mr and Mrs.

Mr Batey became ill while on holiday in the United States and after returning to his home in Blackpool with his wife Edith, 89, he passed away in Trinity Hospice last night.

Harry King, a friend and former colleague, said: “He was a people person and was never happier than when he was talking to people. He could be talking to the Queen or the person next door.

“He ran the iconic Mr and Mrs show but lots of other things too, including the chat show ‘Look who’s talking’.

“He would always let the people he was talking to take the limelight. He will be much missed.”
