ITV has said it will refund “misled” viewers who used paid voting in the Britain’s Got Talent final to vote for Blackpool-born dog trainer Jules O’Dwyer and her dog Matisse, or donate their money to charity.

Jules and Matisse took the TV contest’s crown earlier this year, but the broadcaster was criticised when it emerged the morning after the final that their winning sketch actually featured a second dog.

The repayment offer comes after broadcasting wathdog Ofcom ruled that “ITV broke broadcasting rules by misleading viewers during the series finale”.

FA total of 1,175 complaints poured in about Jules and Matisse’s act, with viewers expressing their outrage that Matisse had not performed the tightrope stunt, the most spectacular element of the winning sketch.
