A young girl, a hungry wolf, and a walk through the woods sounds like a recipe for disaster, but Red Riding Hood isn’t scared ... well maybe she’s a little bit scared.

The classic girl-and-the-wolf tale, presented by the acclaimed Horse + Bamboo Theatre Company, comes to Blackpool Grand Theatre for four daytime performances tomorrow and Thursday.

Horse + Bamboo present a re-telling of the classic girl-and-the-wolf tale where visuals blend with pantomime-style silliness and spooky moments to create an enchanting piece of theatre.

The original tale is well known, Red Riding Hood leaves her mother’s house with provisions for Granny. Along the way she encounters a wolf which races her to Granny’s house and eats the old dear up.

In Horse + Bamboo’s version Red plays with the wolf and they sing together, though she becomes aware there is darkness in him. The wolf still gets Granny but Red saves the day and releases her from the depths of the wolf’s stomach.

The piece is performed using storytellers with carved puppets and handmade masks.

At the end of each show the audience will get a chance to look at the living props and ask questions about Horse + Bamboo’s working processes.

The company has been making and touring high quality theatre for over 30 years but Red Riding Hood is the company’s first opportunity to fulfil their ambition of taking a traditional tale and giving it their own twist.

The show is suitable for children aged four and up.

Performances are Wednesday at 1.30 and 4.30pm and Thursday at 10.30am, 1.30 and 4.30pm. All seats £4.50.
