BLACKPOOL has been given the seal of approval by Hollywood royalty.
Film-maker supreme Tim Burton has been quoted as saying it was “a pleasure” to film in the resort, after directing the video for The Killers’ last single Here With Me.
The slightly bizarre video (as you’d expect from Burton, who specialises in the strange) was shot before Christmas and features many landmarks in the resort, including the Pleasure Beach, the Tower Dungeon and the Tower Ballroom.
As well as the band, it starred Hollywood star Winona Ryder and British actor Craig Roberts.
It proved a big hit on Youtube with close to two million views – not bad advertising for the town.
And Burton clearly enjoyed the shoot. “The first time I saw The Killers perform live was in Blackpool, UK, shortly after completing work on our first collaboration, the music video for Bones,” he said.
“When I heard the song Here With Me, I remembered seeing a wax figure of Winona in Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks in Blackpool.
“The concept of the video is inspired by the 1935 film Mad Love, starring Peter Lorre, as well as the works of Mario Bava.
“It was a pleasure to film in Blackpool and to work with the Killers, Winona Ryder and Craig Roberts.”
Winona and Burton worked together previously on his films Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands
The filming caused great excitement in Blackpool, not least because The Killers arrived a day early and spent their first ‘free’ evening at the Odeon cinema –causing many a film-goer to go giddy with excitement at the sight of Brandon Flowers and co wandering round the foyer with bags of popcorn.
