Wrea Green organist Tim Butterworth visits St Cuthbert’s Church in Lytham on Friday at 7.30pm to perform a programme of theatre organ music on the Church’s unique Copeman Hart Digital Organ.
Tim, a virtuoso on Yamaha keyboards, will also showcase his skills playing on the latest ‘state-of-the-art’ Yamaha digital keyboards.
Tim began playing the organ aged four, encouraged by his parents having a Lowrey Holiday organ in the lounge. He began formal piano lessons from the age of six, reaching grade eight level by 15.
Tim’s interest in organ music resulted from regular visits to Blackpool, not only to the Tower Ballroom, but also the Cliffs Hotel where over many years he Tim took inspiration and guidance from Peter Jebson, who remains a close friend today.
Tim began playing for organ societies when 14 and has continued to give concerts for over 20 years, travelling to all parts of the UK and parts of Europe.
His repertoire covers a range of music from light classics, musicals, the ‘standards’ and popular music old and new.
He is often complemented on his selection of music as being a change from much of the standard repertoire yet always being music that everyone loves to hear.
The concert will feature the ever popular ‘theatre’ organ style of playing on the wonderful Copeman Hart Digital Theatre organ, plus sections of music played on his Yamaha digital keyboards, opening up a whole world of the most realistic orchestral sounds.
As usual, St Cuthbert’s specially installed video system will be in operation.
Tickets are £7 and can be obtained on the door.
