A Fylde coast performer has landed a place at one of the UK’s top dance and musical theatre schools.
18-year-old Megan Barnes will be going straight from the bright lights of Blackpool to the Performers College, Essex, to further her studies.
The Blackpool Sixth Form student will tomorrow night star in her college’s production of Sweet Charity, taking on the lead role in the musical, just part of her commitment to performing since she was just a toddler.
The former Cardinal Allen High School pupil, from Fleetwood, has won one of the college’s 90 places, beating competition from 900 others in her January audition which consisted of ballet, jazz dance and singing.
She said: “I have been performing since I was two or three years old and I have always known I would like to go into the performing arts industry as a career and the Performers College has been my first choice for a while.
“I would really like to be involved in West End productions at some point.
“Performers College also does a lot of commercial work as well so it’s good to have the option of being able to work in both.”
Megan was encouraged to apply for the college by tutors at the Blackpool Old Road sixth form, where she is in second year studying BTEC performing arts and BTEC dance as well as rehearsing for the musical.
She added: “I’m really looking forward to the show - I can’t wait!”
The show is at 7pm nightly on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week. Tickets are priced at £6 full and £4 students/concessions, available at www.blackpoolsixth.ticketsource.co.uk
