STARS of the future got a taste of the showbiz lifestyle when they recorded a song to celebrate their acting school’s 20th anniversary.
Twelve talented pupils at the Emily Laws School of Acting, in St Annes, recorded a version of the school’s theme song, Children of Tomorrow.
The lucky dozen were selected following a school wide audition and visited Bluebird Studios, on Wood Street in St Annes, on Saturday to show off their vocal skills.
Emily Laws co-wrote the song with her sister Yvonne Smedley when it was first recorded 10 years ago by past pupils.
But Emily has produced and directed the new version of the recording to mark 20 years of the acting school.
She said: “I suspect we’re unique in having our own theme song.
“I’ve certainly never heard of anyone else doing it.
“It was first recorded 10 years ago so we’ve updated it and now we’ve got new children doing it.
“We’re very excited about it.”
Yvonne accompanied the choir, aged between seven and 17, on the keyboard for the recording.
Erin James, 11, from Staining, said: “I enjoyed singing with everyone else and I’ve got a solo bit. I love being able to perform because it’s something that I really enjoy doing.”
Poppy Appleton, nine, from St Annes, said: “We’ve not done anything like this before.”
The school celebrates its 20th birthday in March and Emily is hopeful for even more success in the coming two decades.
She added: “Most children tend to stay here until they’re 18.
“We try and nurture the talented young people and we never turn anyone away for money reasons.”
CHILDREN OF TOMORROW
We’re looking up at the mountains
We’re gazing down to the deep
When you are fearful of drowning
When your road seems too steep
When obstacles are in your way
However tough it seems
Never doubt the truth
There’s no impossible dreams
CHORUS: We are the children of tomorrow
We’re reaching for the stars, the highest heights Believe in us the way we do. We want to share the dream with you We are the future, the shining lights
We have been given a gift
We have been given a voice
We have been given the world
We have been given a choice
We’re told that dreams just can’t come true The price is just too high But though our feet may touch the ground You’re going to see us fly
We’re holding onto dreaming
This is where it starts
We’ll shine on through tomorrow cos
We’re following our hearts
