Children of all ages are invited to the magical world of Fairy Land, as Blackpool’s Grand Theatre’s pantomime Sleeping Beauty opens tomorrow night.

Starring Jennifer Ellison, most recently seen on Sky’s Dance Mums, as well as Radio Wave breakfast show host Hayley Kay, BBC
Radio Lancashire funny man Steve Royle and Any Dream Will Do finalist Lewis Bradley, the show runs into the new year.

In a brief break between hosting the breakfast show and rehearsals yesterday, Good Fairy Hayley said: “It’s a magical panto and, maybe I shouldn’t say this, a very girlie story.

“One of the toughest things for me has been learning all the spells and tricks and effects, which are going to look amazing.

“But it’s all about the magic and we’re looking forward to welcoming everyone to Fairy Land, which is how the show starts.”

As the fairy, Hayley’s taking to the skies this year for the first time, and she’s seeing the beautiful Grand Theatre from a new angle.

“I had my first flying lesson on Monday,” she said. “I’ve worked on the Grand stage since I was about six or seven years old and thought I had seen everything, but this is very new.

“One of my wires got stuck on a light, which was a bit scary, but they’ve assured me it can’t happen during the shows as there’ll be a board in place.

“This is the hardest week, tech week, before the shows start. There’s so much to test out and check, but it’s going to be brilliant – it helps that I’m a flying fairy!”
