Given half a chance, what child wouldn’t jump at the opportunity to perform Frozen’s smash-hit song Let It Go on a professional stage?
A Winter Wonderland-themed section of Blackpool Scouts’ 53rd annual Gang Show offers youngsters just that dream opportunity this week.
The production, staged at Blackpool Pleasure Beach’s Globe Theatre, opens tonight, taking audiences through decades of tunes, including this year’s hit from the Disney film.
Once again the show celebrates the spirit and can-do attitude of the century-old worldwide Scouts movement, while successfully moving with the times to feature everybody’s favourite current hits.
Director Darrell Shuck said: “Gang Show showcases all the hard work the children have put in. We take the audience dancing through the decades.”
Co-director Matt Hornby added: “Gang Show is a great opportunity for the young people, it builds their confidence and gives them a real sense of achievement.
“It’s fantastic they have the chance to perform on a professional stage and in a great venue like the Globe. It all adds to the experience of being involved in the show.”
It opens with an explosion of colour as youngsters perform Rio Carnival-themed numbers before taking the audience on a trip down memory lane with music from the 20s, 40s, 60s and 80s.
And the Shows’ annual drag dress-up doesn’t disappoint, as boys and girls swap roles to perform Dolly Parton’s 9-5.
It is the winter-themed scenes featuring dozens of children that steal the show though, with tiny snowmen and stage-shy penguins getting their audience in the mood for a very merry Christmas.
Gang Show plays at the Globe Theatre nightly at 7.30pm until Saturday, with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.
Tickets cost £8.50 for adults and £6.50 for children and concessions, available from: 0871 222 9090.
