He may be Yorkshire born and bred, but Billy Pearce is more at home on stage in Blackpool than anywhere else.
Then again considering he’s notched up well over a thousand appearances on various stages around the resort, that’s hardly surprising.
And now there’s another appearance to add to that record as he heads to VIVA on Thursday July 10 with his new Funny Guy show.
There’s a slight twist on his usual dates in town though, with Pearce advertising it as an adult show.
“It’s cheeky, nothing too blue – but I like a change,” he said. “I think once people have got past the initial shock, they will love it.
“Don’t worry – you’ll still be able to tell your next door neighbours the gags, there just may be a bit more blushing than usual.”
The 63-year-old, who was born in Leeds to a pianist father and a mother who worked as a dance teacher, hit the big-time when he reached the finals of TV talent show New Faces in the mid 1980s.
For a long time he had his own summer spectacular show at the Grand Theatre, called The Billy Pearce Laughter Show.
The same show broke box office records when it went to North Pier in 2009 and was voted the best show in town.
He completed his 1,000th stage performance at the Grand Theatre in 2011 ... so it’s little wonder he’s got a soft spot for the resort
“I love Blackpool, and it seems to love me as well,” chirped Pearce, before listing the various stages on which he has appeared over the years.
“North Pier – done that a few times, and notching up 1,000 performances on stage at Blackpool Grand Theatre was great because it is more than anyone else.
“I’ve appeared at Blackpool Tower too, so I’ve got some brilliant memories of the place, and now I’m chuffed to have been asked to appear at VIVA, one of the few venues in town I’ve never performed at before.”
Tickets for the one-off date go on sale today and prices start at £14.90. Pre-show dining options are available. Go to www.vivablackpool.com or call 01253 29729 for details.
