Catalan Motown and Northern Soul revivalists The Pepper Pots (pictured right) have left the sunshine of their home land behind to make the first of two return appearances at the Sands Venue on Central Promenade in Blackpool tomorrow night.
In the UK for a short tour to promote their fourth album, Train To Your Lover, a new step forward in a career in constant evolution, recorded in their own recording Black Pepper Studio, using an entirely analogical setup and similar instruments to those used in the golden era of soul.
Each band member has collaborated in the album’s composition, arrangements, production and mixing with the final mastering touch coming from the hands of the legendary Bob Ohlsson, Motown sound engineer during the classic period of the label between 1965 and 1972, working with leading artists including Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Smokie Robinson & the Miracles, The Spinners and Gladys Knight & the Pips.
The result is 12 tracks that stretch from the best of The Supremes to early Jackson 5, from deep soul ballads of Doris Duke to ground-breaking Northern Soul – classic sounds and influences which The Pepper Pots have sprinkled with new life with some of their best songs to date.
Peter Swann, proprietor at The Sands Venue, said: “The Pepper Pots are a great international act.
“They are so good in fact that we are inviting them to The Sands Venue twice in April.”
The Pepper Pots are at Sands as part of a four-date UK tour and The Sands on April 5 and 12.
Tickets are £12.50 (show only) or £25.99 (with three-course meal). Details – www.the-sands-blackpool.co.uk.
