Blackpool’s Winter Ball is back – as a Summer Soiree.

Having taken up where the Christmas Tree Ball left off, the event is now shifting to the hopefully sunnier surrounds of North Pier’s sundeck.

“Rain or shine it will be fine,” said organiser Les Riches. “The Winter Gardens suited us for our first event – and we will back there this December in one shape or another – but for our summer event we wanted somewhere different with a different feel.”

So the word “ball” has been replaced by “soiree”, and the June 23 event will feature an all-weather marquee on the sundeck, as well as the end of the pier Carousel Bar.

“We wanted to get away from the ball image and make it a more laidback affair – it will be more edgy with a smart/casual dress code and a concert sound system,” said Les. “The feedback we got from the Christmas Ball was that people wanted more live music, and we have responded to that by booking four bands.”

The Carousel Bar will be given a nightclub feel for the night, with the Sun Lounge being a live area.

Heading the DJ list will be Greg Wilson, whose track record includes the Wigan Casino and the Hacienda, and DJ trio Wildkats, who are currently on a world tour.

Live music comes from Touch The Pearl – making their first appearance in several months, The Monster Squad – back by popular demand after their Winter Ball success – plus Super 8 Cynics and Government.

Blackpool’s breakdance heroes Free Fly Crew will be appearing, and also lined up are Lee Walls, Kent Mason, Beau Flood, Mark Turnpenny, Garius Ashton, Fez, and John Tomlin.

Starting at 5pm, the live area will run until 2am, with the dance room carrying on until 4am.

Tickets at £20 each are on sale now at fashion and hair shops on the Fylde coast or skiddle.com/tickets and 0844 8842920.
