THRILL-seekers at the Pleasure Beach got more than they bargained for at the weekend, with a star-studded line up of reality TV stars and pop idols.
Megastars JLS were mobbed as they dropped in for a surprise visit to the park on Saturday, while Blackpool’s own Dan Whiston, of Dancing on Ice fame, brought former dancing partner Kerry Katona along for the ride the next day.
And while the JLS foursome – Aston, Marvin, JB and Oritse – attracted bucketloads of attention, Aston only had eyes for Spongebob, who he won on a racing game.
Dan, who skated off Dancing on Ice three weeks ago, said Kerry had begged to pay a visit to the famous attraction.
Dan, who was crowned champion along with resort actress Hayley Tamaddon last year, said: “Kerry was desperate to come to Blackpool, so I took her to the place where I learned to skate.
“It was a fabulous day, the sun was shining and people were asking us questions and taking photos.
“We had camera crews following us round too, as part of Kerry’s newest programme, The Next Chapter.
“The people were so friendly and the sun was shining, so it will be a great advert for Blackpool.”
JLS, who last year won the Best UK Act in the MOBO awards, had been given an invitation way back in December 2009, after they performed at the Jingleball.
Disappointed fans took to Twitter and the JLS forum to bemoan the unscheduled nature of the visit.
One fan wrote on the forum: “Imagine if you were just going about your daily routine in your home town and there was JLS I would freak!
“Wish I had taken a day trip to Blackpool now.”
Other fans added on Twitter: “Apparently the boys were in Blackpool today and they got mobbed.
“If I had heard this before I would have gone, I only live half an hour away.”
A spokesman for the Pleasure Beach said: “Kerry is a fan of Pleasure Beach and has visited a number of times in the past so she came here to have a day out and catch up with Daniel.
“They had a great day out and enjoyed the Ice Blast, Pepsi Max Big One and Wild Mouse.
“JLS visited Pleasure Beach in December 2009 and really wanted to go on the rides but didn’t have the chance as they had a gig that night.
“The park was open during their visit and many lucky fans got autographs and photos with their heroes.”
