Bosses at a Fylde coast theatre are hailing a host of bumper names as they celebrate their best ever box office sales.
Around a quarter of the tickets to see tenor Russell Watson in the intimate setting of the Lowther Pavilion in Lytham in November were sold within hours of going on sale on Friday and, by the end of the weekend, close to half of the 457 capacity was spoken for.
At the same time, tickets for the latest appearance at Lowther in October by comedian Jenny Eclair, who attended school locally, also went on sale and proved popular, while there was also plenty of demand for gigs involving the likes of Rae Morris, Rebecca Ferguson, Tenors of Rock and dance act Chicane, which the Pavilion is to host in August as part of the new-look Lytham Festival.
“It’s been a fantastic response,” said Lowther manager Roger McCann. “We had a queue waiting outside the door on Friday morning.
“There has been plenty of demand for the Russell Watson tickets, while sales for Jenny Eclair also made a very good start.
“The Lowther shows during Lytham Festival have been selling very well and we are also an outlet for the Festival’s main arena events on The Green so, taken together, we had one of our best weekends ever.
“Jenny has joined an autumn comedy programme which I feel is the best we have ever had. The return of Milton Jones in October after his sellout show in February is selling well and we only have about 50 seats left to sell for Ed Byrne on November 28
“It is a really exciting time for us. Russell Watson usually plays huge venues such as arenas seating several thousand people and he wanted to do a more intimate show to reach audiences in a more personal way. He’s doing this tour off and on all year but even this smaller version of the show is a very big undertaking for the Lowther and we’re having to upgrade our electrics just to accommodate it.
“We’re one of the smallest dates on the tour and at one stage it looked as though we couldn’t do it but after a lot of negotiation we’ve managed to confirm all the arrangements.”
