There’s a rare chance to share an intimate evening of traditional Celtic music and song with Davey Arthur and special guests on Sunday October 2 at the Merrie England Showbar on Blackpool North Pier.
Davey Arthur is renowned as one of Ireland’s best-loved and most successful musicians with over 40 compositions being recorded and performed by some of the finest artists and bands ever to grace the world stage.
He has been honoured with a place in the Irish Music Hall of Fame in Dublin.
He still tours extensively with his band The Fureys and has done so for over 35 years.
In his new solo show An Evening with Davey Arthur & Friends, fans of The Fureys will not be disappointed as he always includes some of those well-known hits such as The Red Rose Cafe and When You Were Sweet Sixteen.
He is an all-round entertainer – as well as playing the banjo, guitar and mandolin, he also has a mellow, sweet voice and songs to stir the emotions.
He is charming, warm, friendly and has a delightful sense of humour, which is so evident when he is entertaining his audience during his intimate evenings with amusing tales and stories.
Davey also always takes time to meet people and talk to them during the evening.
“I enjoy playing in the bigger band but it also gives me a buzz to play in smaller gatherings where I can involve the audience more and create an intimate, friendly, atmosphere,” he says.
In An Evening with Davey Arthur & Friends Davey is joined on stage by his youngest son Patrick ‘Pa’ Arthur on percussion and strings and also the UK guitarist Steve Layton.
Together they deliver a unique blend of traditional Celtic music and song on guitar, mando-cello, mandolin and percussion and of course Davey’s live performances on tenor banjo are legendary and have earned him worldwide acclaim throughout his career.
The show gives fans a rare chance to see this folk icon performing live.
