The 1960s pop star and chart topper Ricky Valance is touring the UK in December and has joined up with Blackpool-based Big One Productions to perform a one night show in Thornton at The Ashley Club on December 1.
He hit the number one spot in 1960 with a cover version of the Ray Peterson American hit Tell Laura I Love Her.
Ricky, who is now 73, said: “It’s great to be back on the road again being the first Welshman to top the charts all the way back in 1960. It’s great that the public still want to see me and support me in what I do and love.
“It’s also my first gig in Blackpool and the area so it’s nice to be asked to come over even though it will be the middle of winter.”
Stuart McNeal, show director and producer at Big One Productions, said: “It’s wonderful that we have got ties with Ricky and it not only shows our commitment to Blackpool and the local area also but also to the bigger stars of yesterday.
“We have been in talks with Ricky about this for some time and it’s great to see it come off and work for everyone involved. We are even talking to Ricky about the chances of a summer run in 2013.
As well as his chart topper Ricky will be singing other tracks he recorded in the 60s such as Once Upon a Time, Movin’ Away and Lipstick on Your Lips and more. Tickets are £10 each and include a Meet With Ricky session after the show or £16.95 to include a three course meal with the show.
Tickets can be obtained from (0844) 4771000 or online at www.bigoneproductions.org.uk.
