Singers take a musical journey

Have your say

Whatever the weather The Elswick Singers will be taking a musical journey from Bach to Brubeck and Beyond next month.

Elswick Village Hall will be the venue for the Singers’ annual summer concert on July 6 and 7 at 7.30pm.

Tickets, which cost £6 and are inclusive of refreshments, can be purchased from any choir member, or be reserved by phoning the choir secretary Val Hamilton on (01253) 622711 and collected at the door on the evening in question.

This year the concert has a musical history theme which encompasses a varied selection of music, with compositions from the past, through to modern day pieces.

Proceeds this year will go to the Meningitis Trust, a charity nominated by a choir member who has been supporting Margaret Willan, a grandmother who lost her 17 year old granddaughter Jodie Willan to the illness.

Margaret is undertaking (at 74 years old) a trek along the Great Wall of China to raise funds for the trust.

The choir are extending their summer activities this year by taking part in Last Choir Standing on Sunday, July 29, at Wrea Green at 7pm.

This has been organised by Wrea Green Players in association with Wrea Green Olympic Team.

In August the Singers are taking part in the Patronal Festival at the Church of St. Helens in Churchtown.

The group is still hoping to attract more tenor singers to join and anyone interested in becoming a member should either ring the secretary Val Hamilton on (01253) 622711 or go along on a Tuesday evening to the Village Hall on Roseacre Lane, Elswick at 7.15pm.
