Singers of all ages are being invited to join a new choir being launched in Blackpool next month.
Bel Canto, is founded by Robert Richmond and Ashley Goodinson who are looking for experienced singers and talented youngsters to meet together to rehearse stimulating and challenging choral music.
Their aim is to deliver a single choral programme at the end of each year’s training, to be presented in concert with orchestral accompaniment at venues in the Fylde and beyond.
With many other church and community choirs already in existence, Robert and Ashley are keen to provide a niche for “a certain kind of musician and a certain type of music.”
“We are aware of the many new and innovative composers of choral music who are producing works that demand a good deal of musical expertise from the performers,” says Ashley. “It is the challenge to perform rhythmical and harmonically vibrant music that is exciting us.”
Robert is hoping that after 30 continuous years of choral conducting he should be able to call on many singers with whom he has worked on past musical projects.
Ashley is hoping that with his extensive contacts with students in music education in the Blackpool area he will be able to encourage new talent to experience what will be an exciting and rewarding repertoire.
Although the two conductors will be asking the choir to examine the music of modern composers such as Whitacre, Lauridsen. and Rutti, they will also be keen to explore other major works of the choral repertoire from older, more traditional composers.
“The success of the choir will depend largely on the number of enthusiastic singers able to commit to regular rehearsals,” says Robert. “The works selected for training are often divided into eight part harmony, so a large choir is essential.”
The hope is that the members of the choir will find the rehearsal venue at The Blackpool Sixth Form College on Blackpool Old Road convenient. The comfortable venue is well equipped for rehearsing a large choir and rehearsals will be held every Thursday from 7.30 to 9.30pm starting from November 29.
Anyone interested in joining this new choir should contact 07970 902074 or e-mail either firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com
for an application form.
Although auditions will not be required, all prospective singers will be asked to give details of any previous singing or other relevant musical experience.
