Hundreds of amateur skaters will take to the ice from tomorrow at the Pleasure Beach Arena.

The 2015 Ice Skating Festival gets underway, with five days of novice competitions at the resort.

Each day’s competition, which features skaters of all ages, closes with a presentation gala where winners receive a trophy.

The festival is held in association with the National Ice Skating Association (NISA) with top UK judges scoring the skaters.

Arena characters Miss Cherry Flip, Gilda Glide and Axel will also be showing off their rink skills.

Arena commercial manager Joanne Conway said: “The Ice Skating Festival has a proud heritage in Blackpool and is one of the longest running festivals of its kind in the UK.

“Skating has always been a popular pastime for thousands of children across the country and this festival is a great showcase for their talent.

“The atmosphere in the Arena will be electric from the moment the first skater takes to the ice until the last skater in the gala presentation at its finale.”

Spectator’s passes cost from £5 a day, from the Arena box office on (01253) 341707.
