Comedy star and actor Bobby Ball has thrown his support behind Blackpool’s latest cabaret bar, Viva!, which opens on August 10 in the former Mecca building on Blackpool promenade.
Bobby, who is back on tour show with comedy partner Tommy Cannon and plays the resort’s Grand Theatre every Friday for the summer, dropped in to see final preparations at the new venue which is on the seafront next to Blackpool Tower.
Bobby, one of the stars of the hit TV show Not Going Out, said: “Viva’s going to be smashing and it’s just what Blackpool needs.
“Hard working families come to Blackpool to see a show, have a laugh and watch the dancing girls – that’s what they’ll get at Viva!”
For camp comic Leye D. Johns, who has just finished touring with Joe Longthorne, it is a dream come true to open his own club and after 20 years of performing in the resort he reckons he knows what the public want to see.
Leye, the recent winner of the Individual Contribution To Blackpool Tourism award, added: “If you’d told me a year ago I would have my own club on Blackpool Promenade, I’d have laughed my head off and told you to go away. And now look!
“I’ve got a great team around me of singers, dancers and comedians that will give people a great night out. And I mean proper artists, not TV talent show rejects!
“After a hard day of sunbathing on the beach, holidaymakers can just pop across the road for a lovely meal and watch an amazing show at a reasonable price.”
* Viva! opens on Friday August 10 with performances on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays all year round. For more details check www.vivablackpool.com
