Beverley Knight - North Pier Theatre

THEY’D queued right along the Promenade to get their hands on tickets to see soul stalwart Beverley Knight (right).

And it was certainly worth the wait.

Although the show’s compere wasn’t the most convincing as he read off A4 sheets of paper, former Neighbours actor Sam Clark managed to warm the crowd up before the headline act made her appearance at North Pier’s renovated theatre.

It is clear that even after 17 years in the business, the gracious singing sensation is still appreciative of her loyal fans as they whoop and cheer to her every sound.

Supported by two guitarists and a pair of backing singers, an acoustic version of Shoulda Woulda Coulda was a real highlight.

Greatest Day and Made It Back remain huge crowd pleasers while her version of George Michael’s One More Try – from her new album Soul UK – showed the sassy singer can put soul into anything she touches.

Her voice remained strong throughout the energetic hour long set and, by the end of the show, she had the whole audience up dancing – even my Dad, which is no easy feat!
