It was the TV talent contest which captured hearts everywhere...

Now a Fleetwood woman is hoping to strike a chord with Wyre’s youngsters – and introduce them to choral singing, just like the TV show The Choir.

Sarah Stead (pictured) wants to follow in the footsteps of Gareth Malone’s success in the hit series, and is calling for young people from the area to perform in a production of Grease!

Rehearsals with the Strike a Chord Theatre Company get under way tonight at Trinity Methodist Church on Fleetwood Road, with a view to putting on the show at Thornton Little Theatre next Easter.

The session starts at 7.30pm. Director Sarah, 21, graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University this year with a BA honours degree in Music Production and is now working to gain a diploma in acting.

When she was younger she gained a wealth of experience and inspiration from Fleetwood choral tutor Charlotte Dawson and the Fleetwood Ladies Choir. Now, by starting up a theatre group, Sarah hopes to create similar opportunities for young people.

The Strike a Chord Theatre Company is currently recruiting new members.

Sarah said: “I know there are lot of talented young people around here, who can sing, act and dance. A lot of them may not have thought seriously about it but might like to give it a go. People who are interested in this production need not have any performing experience, just lots of enthusiasm. It’s an exciting project and offers a great opportunity for young performers from around here.”

The sessions are aimed at 14-18 year olds.
