STEVE Royle can’t keep away from Blackpool.
Then again, we don’t mind at all because the fella has been consistently keeping the people of the resort entertained for years and shows no signs of stopping any time soon.
Fresh from appearing in his 10th panto at the Grand - his performance in this year’s Cinderella arguably his best yet - it has been announced that Royle is to headline the Blackpool Variety Show on the resort’s North Pier in March.
Royle, who has a show on BBC Radio Lancashire, is no stranger to the pier.
He performed alongside Mick Miller, Roy Walker and Duncan Norvelle in The Laughter Show in the pier’s theatre and more recently his character cabaret show Slaughterhouse Live sold out in the Merrie England Showbar as part of the Comedy Carpet Live 2012 event.
The Variety Show, on at the Sands Venue last year, and moving to North Pier Theatre this time around, features many fine acts from the area, and traditionally always supports young people from the area who want to perform on stage.
This year is no different, with 11-year-old Jamie Fairbanks and his wonderful soulful voice lined up to appear, as well as 16-year-old singer Rhys Alexander, who is set to release a charity single in March.
Two further names announced who will be performing on the night are local artists, vocalist Tony Just and comedian KSK.
Blackpool Variety Show organiser Lee Robson said: “Now in our fourth year we are so pleased to be able to present the show at Blackpool’s North Pier Theatre.
“We have a great friend in Steve Royle and we are really pleased that he and the other artists we have announced have agreed to come and perform on the night.
“More star names will be announced shortly, and I can promise that we will have something for everyone in the show.
“There will be much music, lots of laughter and magnificent magic.”
The Blackpool Variety Show is at North Pier Theatre on Wednesday March 27 at 7.30pm.
