Two years after it made a triumphant return to Blackpool Opera House, the Royal Variety performance is to make its first visit to The Lowry on Salford Quays in Greater Manchester in the presence of Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal.
Comedian Peter Kay will host this gala evening which stars Tony Bennett and Barry Manilow, who will be jetting in especially for the show to give a one night only performance.
Also featured will be US X Factor judge and former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger and US singer songwriter Cee Lo Green plus UK pop sensation Pixie Lott (pictured left at Blackpool’s 2011 Illuminations Switch On), Britain’s Got Talent winner Jai McDowall, masters of magic Penn & Teller direct from Las Vegas, classical supergroup Il Divo, Adam Cooper and the cast of Singing In The Rain in an exclusive performance ahead of it’s opening in the West End next year, and critically acclaimed comedians Jason Manford, Greg Davies and Tim Minchin.
Julia Fawcett, The Lowry’s Chief Executive commented: “The Lowry is delighted to be hosting the 83rd Royal Variety performance and to welcome Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal for another wonderful night of art and entertainment. This is one of many notable highlights in The Lowry’s 11 year history, which has seen some of the world’s most talented performers take to our stages and finest artists displayed in our galleries.”
The Royal Variety Performance will be produced by ITV Studios and screened on ITV1 later in the month. Due to the nature and scale of this event, The Lowry will be closed to visitors from 4pm on Monday December 5.
The event is staged in aid of the Entertainment Artistes’ Benevolent Fund. The money will help maintain Brinsworth House in Twickenham, Middlesex – the entertainers’ retirement and nursing home. All tickets are only available from the EABF on 0208 8988164.
