Formula one racing cars and swirling tea cups and saucers are among rides in Blackpool during the festive shopping period.

The Sedgwick family – owners of Blackpool’s North Pier – teamed up with the town centre Business Improvement District to install the rides in St John’s Square in time for last-minute Christmas shopping.

Town centre manager Eileen Ormand said: ”When the fairground which had been due to arrive this weekend was unable to come, the partnership working that makes Blackpool so special really came into its own with the Sedgwick family, Blackpool BID and Blackpool Council all working together to get this fabulous funfair into St John’s Square.”

Peter Sedgwick Jnr (pictured left with Eileen) added: “St John’s Square is the perfect space to present a fairground in the town centre.

It already looks quite magical and the addition of our fairground rides will add to the festive feel within the town.”

The fairground will operate from 10am to 8pm every day – excluding Christmas Day – until January 2.
