Blackpool Grand Theatre is celebrating a record-breaking opening to its summer season with box office takings breaking records in the first week.
Joe Longthorne, who opened his summer season a week early, said: “It’s wonderful people still want to see what we do. It’s great to be back. Here’s to a record-breaking season, not just a record-breaking week!”
Billy Pearce took to the stage last Tuesday night and declared: “It’s good to be back!”
With more summer appearances at the theatre than any other artist Billy’s Laughter Show is proving to be one of the hits of the summer.
Of the record-breaking start to the season he said: “This is fantastic news. I have a great cast this year and a non-stop, fun, family show which everyone seems to love.”
Completing the summer season line up, Wednesday night’s Dancing Queen show saw the audience singing and dancing along to 70s hits, a tribute to Grease and Abba.
Summer season producer, Tony Jo of HRH Entertainments, said: “I’m delighted at the news and glad to be back at the beautiful Grand Theatre. I believe this success reflects the upturn we’re all wanting for Blackpool and entertainment in the town.”
“These shows have launched our summer season and it’s really heartening to the Grand to hear this news,” said Grand Theatre chief executive and general manager Neil Thomson. “I hope Blackpool continues to attract the number of patrons it did last week. There’s a long way to go but we are very optimistic of a continuing success.”
